Cedar Leaf (Thuja) Essential Oil Thuja occidentalis is an evergreen coniferous tree, in the cypress family Cupressaceae, which is native to eastern Canada and much of the north, central and upper Northeastern United States. Cedar leaf oil is extracted by steam distillation of leaves of cedar and the oil is colorless to pale yellow clear liquid with intensely sharp and fresh with a woody camphor scent.
