Things You Must Consider When Joining a Golf Club or Country Club

If planning to join a golf or country club, you must consider a few crucial factors. Take the following into account to make it easier to determine which club is right for you.

1] Location

The closer you live to the club, the more you use it. For instance, if you live in Cape Town, you consider the parklands-style Somerset West Golf Club located on the slopes of the magnificent Heidelberg Mountain, barely thirty minutes from urban Cape Town. The club's exceptionally welcoming environment is one of its most distinguishing features, providing a delightful encounter. Built in 1903, Somerset West Golf Club is split into three sections due to a railway line and a road running through it. Though inconvenient, they add to the challenge and test the golfers as all three sections when either the North Westerly or South Easterly winds blow.

2] Cost

Every golf club has its payment structure, including the most common costs like membership fees and monthly dues. These are the two most significant costs to determine, as it will likely prevent you from joining some golf clubs based on the price alone. Remember that most golf clubs have membership options and affiliations, so you can play elsewhere for free when you are in that area. Consider the add-on fees, like capital dues, storage, using range balls, cart fees, locker rentals, food and beverage minimums and fees for guest entry.

3] Is the club comfortable and provides all the facilities?

Consider the facility's age and amenities. Is it a family-friendly place, or is it more for seniors and professionals? Does it have gyms or fitness facilities like pools and saunas? Are there limits to using these facilities? What facilities are available for the family when you are golfing?

Krugersdorp Golf Club offers a magnificent 6426-meter-long 18-hole golf course. Bob Grimsdell designed it. The facilities available here include a Pro Shop, Hole In One restaurant, and a meat shop owned by two golfers, Clinton Grobler and Darin De Smidt. The club is in the western suburb of Rant-En-Dal – broadly translated from Afrikaans as "Hills and Valleys" – Krugersdorp Golf Club is one of the oldest clubs on the West Rand.

4] The golf course

Most important is the golf course itself. Can you play in this course regularly without getting bored? How crowded is it? Is it easy to get a tee time for the frequency you want to play? Does it have a league system? Is it easy for all family members to get involved on the golf course?

5] Children and youth

One of the advantages of joining a golf club is the many family and junior activities they provide. Are there holiday and summer camps? Do they provide junior golf and tennis clinics? Do they have a coach to teach the juniors? It is essential for youngsters looking to learn the game. At the same time, what are the rules for children to use the golf course and tennis courts on their own?
