KL University research scholar takes Indian Space Weather Research to an International Scientific Classroom
KL University continues to strengthen its position among the top universities in South India through meaningful global research engagement. The moment unfolded when Mrs. Iswarya S., PhD scholar from the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, represented the university at the ISWI-SCOSTEP International School on Space Weather (ISSW).
Held from January 5 to 9, 2026, at the Indian Institute of Geomagnetism, Navi Mumbai, the international school brought together a carefully selected group of young researchers from across the world. Mrs. Iswarya was chosen through a highly competitive international screening process and received full financial support covering travel, accommodation, and meals, an acknowledgment of the relevance and quality of her doctoral research.
The program was jointly organized by the International Space Weather Initiative and the Scientific Committee on Solar-Terrestrial Physics, offering an intensive academic environment focused on contemporary challenges in space weather research. The curriculum combined expert-led lectures, hands-on data analysis, and interactive discussions, enabling participants to move beyond theory and work directly with real-world observational datasets.
Through advanced sessions on ionospheric processes, geomagnetic activity, and solar–terrestrial interactions, Mrs. Iswarya gained deeper methodological and analytical insights that directly strengthen her ongoing PhD work. A key highlight of the program was her academic interaction with Dr. Nat Gopalswamy from the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, a globally respected authority in solar physics.
As space weather increasingly influences communication systems, navigation, and critical infrastructure on Earth, contributions from young researchers play a vital role in shaping future understanding. For KL University, this milestone highlights its commitment to fostering research that is globally connected, academically rigorous, and socially relevant, further affirming its standing among the top universities in South India, driving impactful scientific inquiry.
